You need a website. Do NOT accept a "free" ready to go website! It will be one of many identical "cookie cutter" sites, you will have no control over it, and it will cost you dearly in sales. 3. You need to find the right keywords (Google keywords is an excellent source). 4. You need your own domain name (not part of another domain - the search engines won't take you seriously). 5. You need to submit your site to the search engines. 6. Once you're indexed in Google, you need to find sites with good Google page rank that will link to your site. In terms of benefit to you, look at PR like a bucket of water. An empty bucket would be PR0, or not assigned. A full bucket would be PR10. The higher the PR of your incoming links, the faster the search engines will react to move you up. This is what brings you up front in the search engine page rankings. This is also the greatest pitfall when starting a new online business.You want to obtain one way incoming links to your site. They carry the most weight with the search engines. If you want a link from a high ranked site and you can’t get it any other way, offer a reciprocal link. This is best done with sites that have a page rank of 6 or better. There are many sites that will sell you links, and many more SEO sites that will promise many links for a fee. They will tell you that all these links have a high page rank. They will tell you that that their links have page ranks somewhere between 3 and 8. The reality is that these links will have a page rank between 0 and 2. You might get one or two 3’s. Do NOT pay for these links! They don’t help your site. You need links with high page ranks to do you any good.One site offered 500 incoming links from high Google PR directories. The reality? More than 400 links came from ONE DIRECTORY, 400 different pages, no Google PR. Google put our site on the back burner for three weeks while they sorted it out. Don’t let this happen to you.You will also find sites that will offer 3 way links for a stiff monthly fee. They tell you that their links are all one way incoming links with a high page rank. Don’t believe it! Out of 200 or so links, you will find that the vast majority of these links don’t even have a page rank assigned by Google. You will probably end up with four or five PR0, maybe five PR1, three PR2, two PR3, and if you’re lucky, one PR4 or 5. These 3 way links are NOT one way incoming links. Nearly all of them have links back from you. Some have a NOFOLLOW meta tag on their link to you. There is another danger. These links will mess up your keywords, and destroy your keyword density. You will find your site coming up for keywords in the search engines that are entirely unrelated to your business. The search engines are taking the keywords from your 3 way links, and ignoring yours. Let me give you an example: Our site promotes tested and proven money making programs. These are some of the keywords that had our site on Page 1 of Google in the past: “rifle scope shop in Singapore”, “golden eagle sr22” (That’s an airplane), “welsh washing machine used parts”. That could be funny, but not when you’re paying a stiff monthly fee for it. We got rid of those 3 way links in a hurry, but then it took a couple of months before the search engines caught up. DON’T DO IT! It will take a lot of hard work, but you need to contact the sites you want links from individually.
